Bars and Tone Reflection

Posted by: tiffanyymitchell on: December 2, 2009

At Bars and Tone I had a very, very pleasant experience.  When we first arrived, we were greeted by the lovely host in pink, Teresa LoBue. She was very warm and friendly. She also had one of the brightest smiles I’d ever seen! She was accompanied by two interns, Enrique and Alexandra. They were very welcoming as well. All three of them were really eager to educate us about their company and about different types of media. They showed us a PowerPoint presentation that not only gave us information on their general field of work, but also detailed profiles of their head employees. We also watched a very entertaining video that showed us how much social media has affected the lives of the human population. After that, we all introduced ourselves to Teresa, Enrique and Alexandra. Some of us showed off our talents! Leylani and Elaine both sang, and Willey and Brandon also demonstrated their break dancing skills with us.

After we were all acquainted, we were able to spend time with the heads of the company. These workers were Stefan Welter, Eric Steckel, Brian T. Nowac and Gina. Because I was very interested in that field of work, I had many questions for them! First I talked to Gina, then Brian, then Stefan and then finally Eric.

I enjoyed my conversations with everyone there, but I really have to  say that I was deeply influenced by the advice Brian gave to me because I want to be a director, like him. He told me that if I wanted to succeed as a director I have to polish my people skills, practice flexibility and patience, I need to learn how to satisfy the needs of others as well as be willing do hard work while maintaining a positive attitude. Something he told me that I would’ve never guessed was that studying engineering would be something very useful for me.

Something I hadn’t really been sure about before was how to get started in the screenwriting and directing business. However, by collaborating l the advice I was given, I’ve learned that success can be achieved through internships and even just going out and volunteering can be good practice and beneficial and to just be able to discover my passion an make a career out of it.  Before Bars and Tone, I wasn’t really sure about whether or not this field was right for me, but after exploring Bars and Tone and being able to converse with the people who helped make it the successful business that it is, I feel more convince that this is a goal I should really work towards.
